Thermal paper is also known as thermal fax paper, thermal recording paper, thermal copy paper, and is called thermal copy paper in Taiwan. Thermal paper is a kind of processed paper, which is manufactured by coating a layer of "heat-sensitive paint" (thermographic color-changing layer) on high-quality base paper.

Thermal paper is specially used for printing on thermal printers and thermal fax machines. The quality of the paper is directly affected by the quality of the print and the storage time, and even affects the service life of the printer and fax machine. At present, the thermal paper on the market is not uniform, and the country has not yet issued a national standard. Many users are not sure how to identify the quality of thermal paper. This provides convenience for many merchants to manufacture inferior thermal paper, causing losses to users. The save time is shorter, the writing is blurred, and the printer is damaged. The thermal printing paper is generally divided into three layers, the bottom layer is a paper base, the second layer is a heat-sensitive coating, and the third layer is a protective layer, and the heat-sensitive coating or protective layer mainly affects its quality.

If the coating of the thermal paper is not uniform, it will cause darkness in some places, light color in some places, and print quality will be significantly reduced. If the chemical formula of the thermal coating is unreasonable, the storage time of the printing paper will change. It is very short, good printing paper can be saved after printing (at normal temperature, avoiding direct sunlight) for 5 years, and now there are more long-lasting thermal papers that can be stored for 10 years, but if the formula of heat-sensitive coating is unreasonable It may only be kept for a few months.

The protective coating is also critical for the shelf life after printing. It absorbs some of the light that causes the chemical reaction of the thermal coating to slow down the deterioration of the paper and protects the thermal element of the printer from damage, but if it is protected The unevenness of the layer not only greatly reduces the protection of the heat-sensitive coating, but even the fine particles of the protective coating fall off during the printing process, rubbing the thermal element of the printer, causing damage to the printed heat-sensitive element.
