Why can thermal paper be a stroke out of the road, do not use a pen to write words?

To solve this problem, two things need to be clarified: one is why thermal paper develops color when exposed to heat, and the other is why scratching paper can generate heat.

Firstly, explain the principle of color development. Ordinary thermal paper consists of a paper substrate and a thermal sensitive color developing layer that plays a major role. If an additional protective layer is added on top of the thermal sensitive coating, a three proof thermal paper with better waterproof, oil resistant, and friction resistant properties can be obtained. Thermal paper can be divided into physical and chemical types according to the principle of color development, with the difference being whether the color development process involves chemical reactions.

Physical thermal paper is divided into melt transparent type, melt transfer printing type, and thermal sublimation type, mainly utilizing the physical state transformation of thermal sensitive materials after heating. For example, the melt transparent type is coated with a non transparent wax layer on a black base paper. After being locally heated, the wax like material melts and becomes transparent, revealing the black color of the base.

Chemical thermal paper is mainly divided into metal compound color thermal paper and colorless dye two-component thermal paper. The commonality is that the components that are used as reactants are fused as coatings, and after local heating, the solid substance becomes a molten state and begins to react chemically, thus showing color. For example, the reactants of metal compound hair color thermal paper are heavy metal salts and reducing agents based on fatty acids, while the reactants of colorless dye two-component thermal paper are colorless dyes and color developing agents containing inner lipid rings.
